Nylon or steel, nickel plated or wound round, Sean Kelly has strummed and plucked many a guitar string, but like many youngsters, his folks had him get that grounding in the classics. It is to those roots that he took part in Universal's immensely popular #1 series, The #1 Classical Guitar Album. The #1 Classical Guitar Album went on to sell over 5,000 copies across Canada in its first year of release and continues to be a hot seller. Sean Kelly returns with the follow-up with Christmas Guitar that debut Top 5# on Billboard's North American New Age and Holiday Charts.
Sean grew up in North Bay Ontario, studying the classical guitar but also digging the sounds emanating form his 12 watt stereo system; Kiss, Van Halen, and Guns N' Roses. But the "classics" he studied on. Moving to Toronto in 1991, Sean studied classical guitar at the University Of Toronto under Canadian virtuoso Eli Kassner. After university, Sean traveled the country in a number of different rock n' roll outfits, but he found himself taken on by the Toronto Catholic School Board where he teaches Vocal Music at three different schools. Privately, he has been teaching all styles of guitar at the Lippert School of Music since 1995.
Sean also started up his own glam rock outfit called Crash Kelly. The latest Crash Kelly record "One More Heart Attack" was produced by Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses/Rock Star: Supernova) and was released via UMG on June 3, 2008. The band recently toured North America with Alice Cooper and Canada with Gilby Clarke. Crash Kelly also opened up for The Black Crowes, Honeymoon Suite, Helix and Motley Crue.
Sean's show consists of two sets, the first of which will feature Sean solo playing selections off of The #1 Classical Guitar Album. After a brief intermission, Sean will return with his band to play classical guitar interpretations of the familiar sounds of Christmas past. Sean Kelly is also the figurehead of Yamaha's "Classic Rocks" campaign (http://www.classicrocks.ca). Yamaha will be buying ads and sponsoring clinics in markets that book the show. Sean is currently on the road, most recently making appearances on "The Tonight Show" and the "Vancouver 2010 Victory Concert Series".
